Responsible Gaming

Last updated: 8 June 2026

RummyGuide is an educational site — we do not host any real-money game. But many of our readers do play rummy for stakes on third-party apps, so this is one of the most important pages we publish. If you play for money, please play responsibly.

The basics

  • 18+ only. Real-money play is for adults aged 18 or over (21+ in some states). Never let a minor play on your account.
  • Set a limit before you start, not after a losing session. Most reputable apps let you set deposit and time limits in their settings — use them.
  • Never chase losses. A losing session is the cost of entertainment, not a debt to be won back. Chasing is how small losses become large ones.
  • Play only with money you can afford to lose — never with rent, EMIs, savings, or borrowed money.

Rummy is skill, but money is still at risk

Rummy is legally recognised as a game of skill in most of India, and skill improves your results over time. But skill does not remove variance: even strong players lose sessions, and the money at stake is real. Treat any real-money play as paid entertainment with an uncertain outcome, not as a way to earn income.

State restrictions

Real-money rummy is restricted or banned in several Indian states, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Odisha, Nagaland and Sikkim (rules change — verify your state’s current law). It is your responsibility to confirm real-money play is legal where you live before you play. See our guide on rummy banned states in India for more detail.

Warning signs

Consider taking a break, or stopping, if you notice any of these:

  • Playing with money meant for essentials
  • Hiding your play or losses from family
  • Borrowing to deposit, or depositing immediately after every loss
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you are not playing
  • Playing to escape stress, low mood, or boredom

Where to get help

If any of those feel familiar, use the self-exclusion and limit tools inside your app’s settings, and talk to someone. In India you can contact:

  • iCall (TISS) — free psychosocial helpline: 9152987821
  • NIMHANS helpline — 080-46110007

There is no shame in stopping. The healthiest move is always to walk away while you are still in control.
